5th Mokokchung Inter-ward Football Tournament: Arkong ward emerge as champions

Arkong ward emerged as the new champions of the 5th Mokokchung Inter-ward Football Tournament after winning against Artang ward by 3 -1 in the finals played today. 

The tournament organized by Marepkong Youth Association (MYA) began on March 12 and culminated on March 23 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung. The closing programme of the tournament was graced by Thsuvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung.

The final match between Arkong ward and Artang ward was a treat for the spectators as both teams had a huge fan turn out. Bendangtoshi of Arkong scored the first goal within 20 seconds of start of the game while the second goal for Arkong came from Aripong just before the three additional minutes of the first half of the game. 

Arkong defense stood very strong, however, a penalty foul in the 60th minute by defender, Nyeiwang Konyak led Tongpang Lemtur of Artang ward to score the first goal for the team. The cheers for Artang ward was short lived as Talitemsu of Arkong scored the third goal in the 67th minute giving very less hope for the opponent team. 

Individual prizes at the tournament included Best Goal Keeper which was bagged by Kevin of Arkong ward, Best Defender award was also bagged by Inovi Chishi of Arkong ward, Top Scorer of the tournament went to Tarepnungsang of Sungkomen ward with 9 goals and the Player of the Tournament went to Namang of Artang ward. 

The champions received a running trophy, cash award and certificates while the runner-up were awarded cash award and certificate.
