The 5th edition of the Trojans Cup Open T20 Cricket Tournament, organized by the Trojan Club, commenced on November 18, at the Zunheboto District Sports Council Ground, which will continue till December 1 with a theme “Fostering Local Sportsmanship and healthy Competition.”
The inaugural programme was chaired by Kihika Chishi, Vice President Trojan Club. The event began with an invocation by Evangelist Kuhozhe Yeptho, Pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Zunheboto.
In the presidential address, Hokato V Yeptho emphasised that sports is not just about winning, but about demonstrating discipline and dedication.
Special guest Hetoho S Zhimomi, President, Sümi Kükami Hoho, expressed his appreciation to the Trojan Club for organizing the tournament and for its continued efforts to uplift the youth. He noted that Nagaland has many talented players who represent the state and earn their livelihood through hard work.
Addressing the players, Zhimomi remarked that for those aspiring to become professionals, talent and hard work alone are not enough. To achieve true success, one must build life on three essential values: discipline, hard work, and faith in God. He encouraged the players to respect one another and move forward in unity.
He further reminded the participants not to consider the tournament a small event, but to give their best on the field. Highlighting the importance of hospitality, he urged everyone to show respect to other players, stating that such gestures bring honor and goodwill to the Sumi community.
A special song was presented by Tonani Obedto Chishi, Ahuna Sumi Singing Star Runner-up 2024, the oath-taking ceremony for the players was led by Kakihe Shohe, Sports Secretary of the Trojan Club, marking the official opening of the tournament.
The tournament features ten participating teams: Naga-Warlock’s Club, Wicket Wizards, United Brothers, Alahuto Sports Association, Adelphos, Zodiacs Sporting Club, Trojans Club Zunheboto (Teams A and B), Skylark Cricket Club, and Lizu Naghuto Sports Association.
