60 wrestlers to vie for CWA 2022 championship title

Kohima, February 9 (MExN): A total of 60 best Chakhesang wrestlers from five units will vie for the coveted title of the 28th meet Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) championship 2022 here at Pfutsero Sports Complex on February 10.

While a total of 20 junior wrestlers will also compete in the U-16 title totaling 80 wrestlers for the championship. The event will be hosted by Secheku Wrestling Association and managed by Sakraba Youth Organization. 

Chokri Area Wrestling Association champion Venuzo Dawhuo, Chozuba Range Wrestling Association champion Nuzosa Nyekha, Kezha-Kuzha Tephe Sports Association champ Reka Mero, Phek Area Wrestling Association champ Vekutho Soho, Secheku Wrestling Association Huluyi D Vadeo will be in contention for the wrestling championship title. 

Some of the other prominent wrestlers are Pfutsero Tetseo, Vetüzo Dawhuo, Vetazo Veswu, Kubere Nyekha, Surhoneyi Soho and many more exciting new upcoming wrestlers on the list. 

The champion will fetch a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000 along with Lt Chosanyi Rose memorial running championship belt. The second, third and fourth position will received Rs 1,50,000,Rs 100,000 and Rs 80,000 respectively. The losing quarterfinalist will also received Rs 10,000 each for senior category.  

In U-16 category, the champ will get Rs 30000, followed by second with Rs 20000, third Rs 15000, fourth Rs 10000 and losing quarterfinalist with Rs. 5000 each. 

Venuzo Dawhuo is currently the two times defending champion of the CWA winning the title in 2018 and 2020. 

The referees for the championship are Chisazo Dawhuo, Hiikhoneyi Soho, Hiivesii Puro,Vekhriyi Chüzho, Lhuvenii Phesao, Zehoto Kikhi, Keneingulie Nagi, Zacuta Poru, Pozoto Shijoh. Jury board includes Kope Kronu, Rüdasa Cürhah and Kukhoto Venyo. 

Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Neiba Kronu will attend the wrestling festival as the special guest and MLA Kezhienyi Khalo as guest of honour.  The inaugural program will begin at 9:00 am followed by players introduction, and lighting of championship Torch by Chakhesang Public Organisation president Vezühü Keyho and torch bearer by reigning champ Venuzo Dawhuo. 

The organizing committee has appeal to all the spectators to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and follows all directives of the government for the safety and welfare of the general public.

Meanwhile, the Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA), hosting unit Secheku Wrestling Association with Management Team Sakraba Youth Organization solicited the courteous presence of the public at the venue by wearing atleast one traditional attire. This is an effort to blend the cultural identity of the Chakhesang Nagas with the traditional wrestling sports, according to CWA.
