Dimapur, December 6 (MExN): The Central Training Institute (CTI) of the Home Guards, Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Saturday celebrated the 63rd Raising Day on December 6, with full ceremonial honours at the CTI Ground in Toluvi village, marking its continued contribution to disaster response and civil protection in the State.
The programme commenced with a ceremonial Guard of Honour, followed by an invocation by Pastor Asemba Longchar of the HG, CD & SDRF Baptist Church, while Avinuo, Commanding Officer, CTI, welcomed the gathering and read out messages received on the occasion.
Aotemsu, IPS, Commandant General, Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF, Nagaland, delivered the Raising Day address, praising the dedication and professionalism of CTI personnel while emphasising the institute’s key role in strengthening disaster preparedness, emergency response and civil defence in the State.
Aotemsu described the Raising Day as a moment of reflection on the noble legacy of the Home Guards, a “tribute to the spirit of volunteerism and sacrifice,” and a reminder of the organisation’s enduring responsibility to remain ever ready in the service of the people.
He also recalled the legacy of the Home Guards, raised in 1946 on a concept that originated in England during the Second World War, highlighting their historic role in restoring communication, evacuating the wounded and carrying out rescue operations.
Special presentations included a Pipe Band display, a special song by the ministerial staff, weapons handling demonstration by trained personnel, and a cultural performance by the Havildars. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Thingtimla, Medical Officer, CTI.
A group photo session followed by a friendly sporting events such as volleyball and football penalty kicks involving NGOs, Havildars, Band Platoon, Quarter Guard, ministerial staff and Jawans marked the auspicious day.
