Wokha, November 22 (MExN): The 6th edition of Lt Emi Shitiri (IAS) Memorial Women’s Football and Volleyball Open Tournament kickoff at local ground Wokha on November 22.
A total of 6 football teams and 14 volleyball teams are vying for the prize in the tournament which is organized by Wokha District Women’s Sports Association (WDWSA).
The inaugural was graced by Liboni Humtsoe, Director Rural Development as special guest and R Chenio Yanthan, entrepreneur, and proprietor of Hill Rubber Enterprise Dimapur as the guest of honour.
As per a press release received here, the tournament is locally organised and one of the first Women’s football tournaments in the State organised locally. Women’s teams from various districts are taking part in the ongoing tourney.
Others who spoke were Thungbeni Ngullie, President, Lotha Hoho, family of late Emi Shitiri (IAS) and Libemo Jami, District Sports Officer and Youth Resource officer, Wokha.
The opening ceremony witnessed a football match played between Indira Gandhi Stadium Academy Kohima and Yangru Women’s Football Team Bhandari. The former won with a lone goal scored by Akhala. Two volleyball matches were played where IG Kohima won the first match played against the Yikhum Women Volleyball team and Tsumang won the second match against Sparkle club Tuensang.
