Dignitaries with the winners of the 10-km Zubza Mini Marathon organized under the SPANDAN Khelo India Scheme at Sechu-Zubza on September 5.
Kohima, September 7 (MExN): Aiming to foster community harmony and empower local youth, the 78 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), conducted the 10-km Zubza Mini Marathon on September 5 under the national framework of the SPANDAN Khelo India Scheme.
The event, themed "Sports for Peace and Development," was flagged off at 6:30 AM from the 78 Bn CRPF Headquarters Main Gate in Sechu-Zubza, Kohima.
The marathon drew over 200 participants, including young athletes and citizens from Kohima and other districts across the state, running to promote physical fitness and advocate against drug abuse.
Commissioner of Nagaland Gregory Thejawelie flagged off the run in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Kohima) Kevileto Nisa, Col. Joseph of 17 Assam Rifles, senior CRPF officers, and local village council elders.
Addressing the gathering, Thejawelie commended the initiative, noting that SPANDAN is not merely about competition, but about building a drug-free, progressive future. He added that the grit shown by the youth of Nagaland demonstrates how sports can bridge communities and foster national integration.
To ensure safety and fair competition, the 10-km highway stretch was manned and regulated by CRPF and State Police route marshals.
Shiangjiu T. Khiamniungan bagged the first position, receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with a gold medal and certificate. Lhiti Lasuh and Takasanen Longkumer finished second and third, securing Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively. Suhluvolu Shijo was awarded a special cash prize and merit certificate for being the first woman runner to cross the finish line. All registered participants who completed the race received commemorative event T-shirts and refreshment kits.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Commandant of 78 Bn CRPF expressed gratitude to the local youth clubs, civil administration, and medical teams for their support.
The Commandant also announced that a larger state-level marathon will be organized next month, offering cash prizes of Rs 30,000 (first), Rs 20,000 (second), and Rs 15,000 (third) across three age categories (18–30 years, 30–45 years, and 45 years & above) for both men and women.
