The 7th conference of Catholic Women’s Association concluded at Threntsuwong, bringing together 90 delegates from six villages held from January 9 to 11.

Pungro, January 11 (MExN):  The 7th conference of Catholic Women’s Association (CWA) concluded at Threntsuwong on Sunday, bringing together 90 delegates from six villages under the theme ‘Strong Women, Strong Future’.

Held from January 9 to 11, the conference resource persons were Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu, Rev Fr Peter Pithungo, and Rev Fr Mathew Neni.

On the opening day, Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu spoke on ‘women who made a difference.’ He drew inspiration from global figures like Mother Teresa, Kalpana Chawla and Indira Gandhi, and biblical characters including Esther, Mary, Ruth, Deborah and Hannah. He highlighted lessons of trusting God’s plan, showing loyalty, fervent prayer, and courageous leadership from their stories, urging delegates to draw strength from these examples to make a positive impact.

Rev Fr Mathew Neni, focusing on the sub-theme ‘Women on their knees keep their family standing’, praised the resilience of mothers. He stated, “women often bear the weight of family responsibilities and their resilience is awe-inspiring,” encouraging them to keep prayer as their primary weapon.

Rev Fr Peter Pithungo, Parish Priest, emphasised the pivotal role of mothers, calling a mother’s love “the fuel that enables a family to run,” and urged them to stay rooted in faith.

The conference culminated with a solemn Eucharistic celebration on Sunday, officiated by Rev Fr Peter Pithungo of St. Paul Parish, Pungro, and concelebrated by Fr Thomas Toretkiu. Special prayers were offered for all mothers and for David Yanseki and Rosemary, who celebrated 56 years of married life. The mass was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and a special musical piece performed by the parish priest.

The event was organised by office bearers led by President Catherine Sangsula, along with Vice President Alphonsa Anong, Secretary Seraphina Sukyala, Joint Secretary Esther Sumila, and treasurers Prisca Tsupishe and Leosa Leshela, with support from executive members from the six participating villages: Pungro, New Vongti, Vongwa, Cedeyevong, Khongiri, and Threntsuwong. During the session, Elina Keyeholi was elected as the new Vice President, replacing the outgoing Alphonsa Anong.

The conference also included various competitions, including quiz, singing, and other creative performances by delegates from the different villages.
