The 7th edition of Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship 2018 under the aegis of Fountain Club in partnership with State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) Nagaland will take place on September 27 & 28 at Capital Convention Centre Kohima under the theme “The Learning Edge.”
Minister Planning & Co-ordination and Land Revenue Neiba Kronu will grace the inaugural function as “bee guest” at 9:30 am. Principal Secretary for School Education Menukhol John will grace the valedictory function as special invitee on September 28 at 4:00 pm.
The competition is designed for students from Class 6 to 10.
The champion will win a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners will receive Rs. 40,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively.
Four quarter finalists will also receive Rs. 5000 each. There will also be young speller award, amounting Rs. 4000.
Organizing Committee convenor Medo Yhokha told The Morung Express that the organizer is expecting around 70 participants from 30 schools across Nagaland.
Yhokha said the objective of this championship is to inculcate and to stimulate young students to develop the habit and love for reading with the philosophy that understanding the origin and meaning of words clearly is the key to learning and acquiring knowledge. It also aims to provide a platform to the students to meaningfully engage in the use of English for command over their academic syllabus and the confidence in communication both in written and verbal. Other objectives are to improve language competency by exposing the students to variety of books, prints and non-print medias, to enhance the students memory and retention capabilities and to sharpen their reflective capacities.
