Kohima, February 22 (MExN): An eight-member team of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), on the invitation of the All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO), has reached Imphal to participate in the 1st Northeast Indigenous Games scheduled to be held from February 23 to 25.
The Games are being organised under the aegis of the All Manipur United Clubs Organization and the Manipur Students Federation (MSF). The NWA team will demonstrate and participate in Naga Wrestling, where a good number of wrestlers from Manipur and beyond are expected to take part and join Team Nagaland in the indigenous sport.
According to a press statement issued by NWA Joint Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho, the participation aims to strengthen cordial relations between the two states and promote Naga Wrestling beyond Nagaland.
The statement also mentioned that Naga Wrestling was recently recognised as a national medal event and was first featured at the Games held in Goa from January 12 to 14 this year. The association further stated that efforts are underway to take the sport to the international arena in subsequent championships.
The NWA team includes President Vivolie Kezo as Team Director, the Property Secretary as Team Manager, and Seyielhoukho Sechü as Referee. The wrestler squad comprises Suthito Rhakho (96 kg), Khrukuzo Nyekha (90 kg), Kedosie Nagi (85 kg), Seyiezhatuo Sano (70 kg), and Pitsali Sangtam (Driver).
The NWA office has appealed to wrestling enthusiasts to extend their support and prayed for the success of the Games.
