Kohima | February 18 : The 5th edition of Kohima Educational Trust (UK) Scholarship 2011 was held today here at Ura academy hall where 86 students received scholarship from Kohima Educational Trust.
Dr. Graham Spearing, KET’s member in his brief address encouraged the students to be more enthusiastic and to spread their wings and enjoy the opportunity they receive from KET. Atuo Mezhur, treasurer KET highlighted about the trust, stating that the trust is a foundation formed by the surviving veterans of the British 2nd Division, relatives and was later joined by well wishers eager to assist Nagas who helped their relatives and loved ones during the World War II in Nagaland.
This scholarship is given to those poor children, orphans or people or a single parent who could not provide education to the children. KET also laid a foundation at Pangsha (located in Nagaland and Burma border), where hostel is also been constructed and children of Khiamniungan tribe also neighboring villages from Burma can avail the opportunity. KEST has also awarded 12 nurses over the three years (four nursing students annually).
Students from 14 government school received a cash of rupees 6400 and rupees 7000 to the private schools students. This scholarship is for the students of class VIII-X where more than 90 students have received over the period of five years.
Along with Dr. Graham Spearing, six other members including veteran soldier of Cameron highlanders were present at the function. The team will be visiting the Cameron highlander’s plaque tomorrow at D. Khel and the group of seven is expected to return to their native home next Monday.
