Dimapur, November 20 (MExN): The Rotary Club of Kohima is celebrating its 8th Anniversary of Charter Nite at Heritage, Old DC Bungalow, Kohima on November 22, 2011 at 6.00 pm.
The Rotary Club of Kohima was chartered on November 22, 2003 by the then District Governor, Dist-3240 Rtn. Manas Chaudhuri with 33 members. The Club membership has members from diverse background of Law, University education, architecture, government Service, Media and publishing , doctors , engineering, police, entrepreneurs, and from the business fraternity. The Club has taken up a number of activities for the community with the motto ‘Service Above Self’. The Club raised a poor patients Fund through a fashion and music program and sponsored the free Laprascopy operation for 8 patients who could not effort such operation. Literacy & health programs and a free blindness control programme was conducted by the club, distributed hundreds of free uniforms and clothes and essentials and organized a film show for the children. The club has also conducted disaster management awareness program and the club members as a resource person on various program of career guidance for youth , peace initiatives and conflict resolution , gender equity, right to information, consumer rights, look east policy , health concerns , water management and hydro power, micro crediting and so on. Free water distribution to citizens in the state capital has also been a main activity of the Club. The RC Kohima made a mark in the achievements by hosting the District Assembly on May 14 and 15, 2005 where more than 300 Rotarians from all over the North East including speakers from other parts of India attended . The two day program and training also gave the visitors an insight into the rich culture and heritage of Nagaland.
The Club has also been helping the Kohima Orphanage in a number of ways through contribution of food and this orphanage project has been continuing by the Rotary Club Kohima with the visiting Rotarians from the two clubs of Murietta and Lake Elsinore (USA) till date. The main two projects been done namely the Water Management Project at Chiechama village and the Rotary Kohima View Point with Safe Drinking Water lying on the NH-37 located in the heart of Kohima town and the projects were inaugurated by His Excellency Governor of Nagaland and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland respectively in the month of July, 2007. The projects are maintained by the Rotary Club of Kohima sponsored by the two clubs of Murrietta and Lake Elsinore, California (USA) and the filter water(Bio-pure) was donated by Alken. The need for a small wayside amenity to rest and drinking water for school children and pedestrians has made the club construct this project for citizens in the town.
Rtn. Kezhokhoto Savi President of Rotary Club Kohima, Dist-3240, Rotary International has requested all the Rotarian to attend the 8th Anniversary of RC Kohima Chater Nite along with their spouses and children and the Rotaract Club Kohima is being requested to manage the entire event and entertainment session. Rotarians from RC Dimapur, RC Mokokchung & RC Mao were being invited to come and attend this Charter Nite to mark the significance more meaningful as a true Rotarian. Several prominent singers both young oldies, Rtns & Rtrs shall be taking be taking part in the entertainment session followed with special dinner.
