Wokha, November 30 (MExN): The 8th Inter-Departmental Sports Meet concluded successfully in Wokha on Friday, marking two days of competitive events and camaraderie among government departments.
Superintendent of Police Wokha, T. Relo Aye, attended the closing ceremony as the guest of honour. In his address, he acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team and expressed appreciation for the opportunity the event provided to interact with officers and staff from various departments. He thanked all participants for their involvement and lauded the display of sportsmanship and discipline throughout the meet.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Renbomo Ezung, also spoke at the event. He extended gratitude to all departments for their active participation and expressed regret for any inconvenience faced. He assured that necessary improvements would be made in future editions to ensure smoother coordination and arrangements.
District Sports Officer Libemo presented the tournament report, noting the participation of over 200 individuals representing more than 30 departments. He highlighted the wide range of games conducted and the enthusiastic response from all teams.
The District Executive Force Wokha emerged as the overall champion of the meet, securing multiple titles across different categories. In the men’s penalty shootout, District Executive Force won the title, while the women’s penalty shootout was won by the Agriculture Department. The men’s tug of war was also won by District Executive Force, and the women’s tug of war was won by the Public Works Department. Weku Mero of the Land Record Department won the men’s arm wrestling event, and Alice Kenye of Mt. Tiyi College won the women’s arm wrestling event. In chess, Lichumthung Tsanglao of PHED won the men’s title, and Lolano Patton of DPRO won the women’s title.
In badminton, the men’s doubles was won by Er. Bonjamo Kithan and Panthanshan Yanthan of PWD, the mixed doubles was won by Libemo Jami and Nsungbeni L. Tungoe of the Youth Resources Department, and the women’s doubles was won by Alice Kenye and Soreno Odyuo of Mt. Tiyi College. In carrom, the women’s event was won by Arhoni Ezung and Meribeni Odyuo of DEF, while the men’s event was won by Ekonthung and Himato of the Prison Department. Table tennis men’s singles was won by Dr. Longshibemo Yanthan of DIET, the men’s doubles was won by Tiatemsu Imchen and Kumughavi Kinimi of District Hospital, and the women’s singles was won by Lolano Patton of DPRO.
The sports meet concluded with a formal closing declaration by Superintendent of Police Wokha, T. Relo Aye, who once again congratulated all participants and encouraged continued engagement in sports for physical and mental well-being.
