Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Legislatures’ Union (ENLU) has expressed grief at the passing away of Toshi Wungtung, MLA & Advisor of IPR, SCERT & Village Guards and also Secretary General of ENLU.
“It is a colossal loss for the Nagas particularly for Eastern Nagaland,” the union said in its condolence note issued by its Convernor, S Pangnyu Phom. “Wungtung was one of the stalwarts of Nagaland whose leadership is manifested in the contribution he made to society with his strong political views,” it said.
ENLU remembered Wungtung as a scholarly person, exceptionally well read, articulate and spoke with much authority and knowledge. His oratory skill was admired and appreciated by all. As Member of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, and as Secretary General of ENLU, he was an asset who seamlessly worked with wide range of knowledge in every sphere. “He has left behind a legacy of leadership,” the union stated.
“As Secretary General of the ENLU, Wungtung’s contribution is immeasurable who worked with his ever willing energetic spirit. He was instrumental in re-organisation of Village Guards and initiated many development projects with various Ministries at the Central Government level for development of Eastern Nagaland,” it said.
ENLU also said, “For the ENPO youngsters our beloved Toshi Wungtung was their ‘Kokai’ who inspired them with his sharp mind, wit, humour and his leadership. He was their ‘go to Kokai.’”
Toshi Wungtung served many years in social service for Nagaland and particularly for Eastern Nagaland by leading from the front for common cause with his fearless and indomitable spirit. “His cheerful presence will be missed by Nagas as a whole. In this time of grief, the whole Eastern Nagaland stands together with the bereaved family members. May God grant strength and comfort to Lipokla and family members as our brother rests eternally in the loving arms of Jesus,” ENLU conveyed.
NSCN (IM) UT: The NSCN (IM) Union Territory has expressed condolences to the bereaved family of MLA and Advisor Toshi Wungtung.
The sudden and untimely demise of such a noble soul, a charismatic and dynamic leader shall forever be felt even in the days to come. His wisdom unparalleled and his deeds exemplary, never will such a personified figure be forgotten. His illustrious career is a witness to itself, said a condolence note issued by ST Kiutsa, Caretaker CAO, UT.
His demise has caused irreparable loss not only to our people but the whole Naga as well. For even when we are all destined to die, he is gone too soon, it stated.
