International University Nagaland marks World Laboratory Day
Kohima, April 23 (MExN): The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the International University, Nagaland observed World Laboratory Day 2026 with a programme themed “A Day in the Laboratory,” aimed at promoting scientific awareness among school students.
The programme began with a welcome address by Registrar Dr Roopam Bachhil, who highlighted the importance of academic initiatives in encouraging scientific learning among young students.
Class XII science students from schools in Chumoukedima district, including Government Higher Secondary School, Mount Mary Higher Secondary School, North Town Higher Secondary School and Carmel Higher Secondary School, attended the event under the guidance of their teachers.
The programme featured activities such as poster-making and extempore speech competitions, along with an interactive lecture session.
Resource person Nungsangmeren Jamir, Microbiologist at the TB Culture & Drug Susceptibility Testing Laboratory, NHAK, delivered a lecture titled “Laboratories: Where Curiosity Becomes Discovery,” where he emphasised the role of laboratories in scientific advancement and innovation.
The event was attended by Founder Chancellor Prof (Dr) Priyaranjan Trivedi, Chancellor Dr S N Pandey, and Pro-Chancellor Dr Utkarsh Sharma. Director (Vocational Studies) Prof (Dr) Zavise Rume also addressed the gathering, highlighting the university’s academic and vocational initiatives.
In the poster-making competition, Julivi Assumi secured the first prize, followed by Vikito V Sumi and Chubakala Pongen in second and third place respectively. In the extempore speech competition, Temjenri won the first prize, while Kidabenro Y Patton and Anito Yeptho secured second and third positions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Mayangmenla Pongen, who acknowledged the participation of students, teachers and organisers.
