‘A great educator, social worker and guide’

Condolences expressed for Dr P S Lorin

Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): Several organizations and individuals have mourned the demise of Dr P S Lorin, Founder and Principal Emeritus of Tetso College, Dimapur on May 31. They have conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and also prayed for eternal rest of the departed soul. 

NPMHR: As a founding member and the first Convenor of Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Dr Lorin never deviated from the ideas and principles of human rights till his last breath. “Today, NPMHR is what it is, and if there is any sense of achievement or success, it is all with thanks, respect and gratitude to our founding members for which, we salute Dr PS Lorin, our first Convenor,” it stated in a condolence note. 

“Always attentive to the last detail of our rights and struggle and ever ready to provide his insight, he had been a strength and a guide all along. His departure is a very sad passage of not just his person but also that “gentle powerful voice of assertion” which the younger generation will surely miss as we do,” it stated.

FNR: “Early this morning, when the sad news of Dr PS Lorin passing away to eternity came to me, solemn thoughts came upon me and especially, before the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR). Sublime recollections of our wonderful friend and a leader converge before us and a sense of how much has been taken away from the Naga people at this juncture. He was one person who stood for the Truth of the Morality, Legality, Political and Historical rights of the Naga Peoples,” stated a condolence message from FNR. 

“We stand too close to the shock of his passing away so soon to be able to think clearly what Dr Lorin was to his family, community and the Naga people. His life was a grand story knitted by God himself—a pilgrimage of faith in Jesus Christ.

Here was a man who never gave up and in his gentle spirit he won people's hearts and traversed lofty heights,” it said. 
“Shasinle, his wife and his daughters and son, were the fiber and strength of his soul. He never would have made safe harbor without you, and he knew it,” FNR conveyed in its condolence.

NSF: In his passing away, Naga Students' Federation (NSF) said that Naga society has lost an educationist par excellence, a deeply committed mentor to the youth and students’ community and an upright leader with the unfailing zeal to serve the people with sincerity and integrity. His pioneering role in the field of education and also in safeguarding the human rights of the Naga people will forever be cherished by every single Naga soul and beyond. 

“NSF shall continue to treasure the many contributions which he have made for the Naga people and the Naga cause during his lifetime and strive to uphold the same as a fitting tribute for his lifetime of selfless sacrifices for the common good,” it stated. 

ANCSU: All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) said that Dr Lorin was a true educationist who played pivotal roles in the upbringing of education in Nagaland. ANCSU acknowledged and honored his valuable contributions rendered towards the well-being of education in our state and beyond.

“At a time when students are transcending into a new horizon of education, having lost a dependable scholar like him will make us feel his absence immensely,” it said. 

DoHE: Department of Higher Education (DoHE) stated that Dr Lorin was a transformational leader for higher educational institutions in the state. In his demise, the state has lost a prominent leader of education. His significant contributions as an eminent educationist will live on. 

DoHE conveyed that it paid tribute and honour “to the dearly departed soul whose humble and humane qualities which he endowed at all times will be cherished.”

NCPA: Nagaland College Principals Association (NCPA) expressed sadness over the demise of one of its longest serving President (2003-2009) who had been a mentor and father-figure to the association. “His legacy we will follow and his memories, our hearts, we will fondly remember,” NCPA conveyed.

ANPSA: All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA), Central Body stated that during his tenure as President of Nagaland Private Colleges Association, ANPSA had the privilege to work with Dr Lorin. 

His single minded dedication to the cause of education among our people is indeed noteworthy. He has left behind a rich legacy. His was a life well lived, it stated.

NSCN (IM): The NSCN (IM) said that Dr PS Lorin’s footprints in the field of Naga political issue, education, human rights and peace will remain indelible. “His educationist legacy shall live on through many generations to come,” a condolence note from its MIP state.

“Dr Lorin was an amazing man and the Nagas are richly blessed through his visionary leadership. We pay rich tribute to him for what he is to the Naga people. The vacuum created shall never be filled up,” it added. 

GNF: Global Naga Forum (GNF) stated that Dr Lorin was a shining example to many Nagas in his public commitments as well as personal values and demeanor. 

His passion for bringing peace to our fragmented society, torn apart by armed conflict, never diminished over the decades. He will be remembered as a visionary who brought his dream of higher education to young Nagas, the Forum stated. 

Naga Hoho: Naga Hoho stated that Dr Lorin was a distinguished educationist and a humble soul dedicated to the just cause of the Naga people. “His dedication and contribution towards unity of Naga society as a mentor and a friend will always be remembered. Nagas have lost a very prominent personality and a great soul,” stated Naga Hoho.

Rengma Hoho: Rengma Hoho stated that Dr Lorin was a leader who earned the love and admiration of the people for his sense of public service, innate simplicity and honesty. “Today, we have lost an outstanding personality and a prominent leader who for years gave his best of him in all that he did, and for this we owe him a debt of gratitude,” stated Rengma Hoho.

K Khing: Advisor, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Service Women Resource Development, K Khing stated that Dr Lorin was an educationist par excellence, a humble soul and a forthright person who stood for the truth. “His immense contribution in the field of education and social cause will always be remembered. In his demise, we have lost a visionary leader,” Khing said. 

Nillo Rengma: Former Minister Nillo Rengma said that as an honest and dedicated gentleman, Dr Lorin through sheer resolve and a far-sighted vision built Tetso College to what it is today – an institution par excellence. He was a giant amongst Naga intellectuals and his untimely demise is a great lost for our Naga family. 

RSZ: Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) said Dr Lorin was a visionary man and a thinker par excellence who have brought about vast revolutionary changes in the field of education and social welfare for the common cause of the Rengma community and the Naga people at large. “At his demise, the Naga people have lost a noble soul, a true son of the soil and one who shall continue to occupy a special place in our hearts.”

WCH: Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) said that the passing away of a ‘great educator, social worker and guide’ has cause a terrible loss not only to the Institute or his community but to the Nagas as a whole. “Such an eminent personality is one among the Naga population whose place will be difficult to replace. Though departed, His contributions for the society will never be forgotten.”

TUD: Tangkhul Union Dimapur (TUD) said that Dr Lorin’s footprint is not only confined in the field of education as an educationist but also as a rights activist and a peace maker whose service for the Nagas is enormous. One of the finest gentleman with a humble heart made of steel, he had left a legacy which will forever be with the Nagas of every region.

PLU: Phenshünyu Lowjvü Union (PLU) stated that Dr Lorin was a great and tall leader who has contributed immensely for the upliftment of Phenshünyu Lowjvü in particular and Nagas in general. “His death has created great vacuum which will be difficult to fill. Today, Phenshünyu Lowjvü people have lost great and visionary leader, and a strong pillar,” it stated.

NSA: Naga Scholars Association (NSA) on demise of Dr Lorin said that it is not only a loss to his family, but to the Nagas at large and academic fraternity in particular. Besides his contribution to society, he inspired and touched many lives - taught, guided and made them walk the path of truth and wisdom. “His life story is one that inspires and will be told for generations to come,” NSA said. 

NFHRCC: Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) mourned the demise of Dr PS Lorin, the former Assistant General Secretary of the Committee. He was a loyal and fearless leader who had fought the good fight on many occasions in making the historic project workable for the benefit of all, the Committee said. 

ANPSA Dimapur: All Nagaland Private Schools' Association (ANPSA), Dimapur recollected Dr Lorin as a man of great stature, a profound Educationist and an ardent social activist. “As we mourn the loss of a treasured soul, a leader and a role model, we shall forever keep his memories in our hearts and continue to be inspired by his incredible legacy,” it said.

DNSU: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) said that Dr Lorin was a fine gentleman, a renowned and humble personality, and a visionary educationist. The void caused by his departure is a great loss to the student community and also to the Naga society. His immense contribution in the field of education will be cherished and remembered. 

DRYO: Dimapur Rengma Youth Organization (DRYO) remembered Dr Lorin as a kind man who was always forthcoming in supporting the community and society at large. He was not only a distinguished intellectual and educationist but was also a great personal mentor to many. 

DRYO said “his devotion to and enthusiasm for charity and community work marked him as an exemplary person and as such, he commanded the respect of his peers, his community and the Naga society as a whole.”

DRSU: Dimapur Rengma Students' Union (DRSU) honoured Dr Lorin as one of the greatest inspiration to many who has left a remarkable legacy towards the younger generations. His contribution in the fields of education and human rights has greatly inspired the Rengmas and Nagas at large. “The exemplary shown by him shall be carried upon, is why we pray and hope for,” the Union added. 

TSUD: Tenyimi Students' Union Dimapur (TSUD) stated that Dr Lorin was a pioneer, social activist for every section of society and an erudite teacher; always ready to lend a helping ear and hand to student community. “We celebrate all his accomplishments, his legacy will forever live on for us to emulate,” TSUD said. 

PCC: Patkai Christian College (PCC) said that Dr Lorin was a visionary leader in academics and a humble person. He contributed immensely as a Board member towards the growth of the college.

DBSU: Dimapur Bengali Students’ Union (DBSU) stated that Dr Lorin was a true gentleman and a visionary educationist. We acknowledge and honour his valuable contribution rendered towards the well being of education in state and beyond, the Union stated.

UNC: United Naga Council (UNC) said that Dr Lorin was one who persevered to pursue higher academics only to return to his homeland to work for the upliftment of youth through education. As an advocate of human rights, he was a peacemaker, who made interventions where required and saved situations, it said. 

“While we lament that our people still needed him at this critical hour, we are comforted by the fact that he left a positive and enabling legacy both in his personal life and in his social engagements from which the journey will continue. We celebrate his life and salute him for his manifold contributions,” UNC said.
