A man of faith & integrity: Rev Yankey Patton laid to rest

Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): Mourners from different walks of life attended the home going service of late Rev Yankey Patton and paid glowing tributes to the departed soul on January 30.

The funeral service was organised by the Lotha Baptist Churches Association at Lotha Baptist Church Diphupar, according to a report from the state DIPR.

During the service, Nchumbemo Patton, the only son Rev Yankey Patton described his father as a spiritual icon and highlighted the many divine interventions upon his father during his ministry in the service of God.

Meripeni Patton, the youngest granddaughter of the late Rev Patton tagged him as her spiritual guide and mentor besides helping her to build a strong relationship with God.

Advisor Mmhonlumo Kikon, speaking on behalf of Ralan village, described the departed soul as a man of faith and integrity who walked the talk only for Christ and led an exemplary life. "As a man of faith, he is on his way to the everlasting shore," Mmhonlumo maintained and thanked the LBCA for organising a befitting programme to the great son of Naga soil. The Advisor also read the condolence message on behalf of the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio.

Former Nagaland speaker Thenucho recalled an incident which took place on August 14, 1991 when he, as the Assembly speaker was travelling with Rev Yankey who was the State Chaplain at the time. He said that as they were proceeding to Mon for Independence day celebration, his entourage was ambushed near Nagaland gate and 9 NAP police personnel, his PA, driver and bodyguard were killed but even after 20 bullets pierced Rev Yankey Patton's coat, miraculously, the Reverend did not receive a single bullet injury and he, seated next to Rev Yankey escaped unhurt. Stating that Rev Yankey’s honesty, commitment and relationship with God continued with the same spirit and zeal, Thenucho said that his life was a blessing to the entire Nagas and Lotha in particular, the DIPR report stated.

Several speakers including, Former Principal, ETC Jorhat, Rev Dr Ezamo Murry, Rev Limhathung, representatives of NBCC, NPBCA, family members and friends spoke during the home going service, among several others. They all showered the late Rev Yankey with praises and said he had lived his life in the service of God.

After the service, Rev Yankey’s mortal remains, accompanied by bikers, warriors, family, friends and Reverends left for New Ralan village where he was finally laid to rest. The committal service at Ralan village was conducted by Ex Pastor, Bhandari Baptist Church, Rev Abemo Patton, the DIPR report stated.
