A tribute to late Horangse Sangtam

A star has set beyond the horizon of the Naga Hills, yet the Good works contributed by him to the Naga people will never ever fade and wither away from their sight. The sudden and untimely demise of the Naga Hoho president in Bangkok was unexpected. It gave a shocked wave and made all the Naga people numb, irrespective of his opponents and supporters.

Before venturing out to Bangkok his family and colleagues advised him, if his health is not in good term take rest and relax at home. In response to them, he replied, “One is commissioned to die but working comes what May”. True to his saying, he worked very hard to consign peace to his people and silently died in Bangkok. Uncle Horangse through your work, speech and activities you have delivered peace to the Nagas and placed them in a better position. Your effort to bring a honorable solution to the people is admirable. To us, you are apostle and emblem for peace. You worked for it, talked for it and dreamed for it. We trusted and loved you Uncle. You had a vision for the Nagas. As the Bible says, a man without vision shall be perished, albeit holding the highest post, made you humble, cool and gentle. Your soft approach yet firm and determine to stand for truth and justice inspired us the most. By nature you were meek but never submitted and surrendered the righteous cause to the hands of evil. A man who has equally loved his foes and friends. He never want to down his enemies and up his fans and supporters. A friend to the youth, a fatherly figure in the family and a mentor to the people. Always true to the cause. Mature in reasoning, who avoided emotional and hasty decisions.

As a leader he might have come across many odds and difficulties yet calmly boomed it and resolved it in a manly manner. He was a dedicated and committed leader. All these signifying, you possessed outstanding qualities. Uncle, you are the symbol for the Naga unification. Your concern and care to the Naga people who are living be cherished by us. You are our source of hope and strength. When our dreams are shattered you rekindle it.

Though the wealthiest man in your area but abandoned all those wealth and started rendering the wealthiest services to your fellow Nagas. Through you, our peace process is placed in a solid rock which will never sink. In the midst of many achievements made, we feel sad and forlorn since you are not more with us. Uncle, it is our humble faith, that there are thousand of angels welcoming you into the city of eternity. The angels have an endless joy since one more noble soul they won. With the angels, Uncle Horangse, will sing his favourite song “Across the bridge, there’s no more sorrow”.
