A twelve year old baby university!!

The Nagaland University is the highest seat of learning in the state, however, in the recent poll conducted by the Morung Express on the topic of whether our university is at par with other university in the region, most of the people voted in the negative. We must understand that it does not in any way show that our university is below standard.

But we must accept that there is room for improvements.

Ever since it’s inception in 1994, the University has been facing some problems beginning with the appointment of the first V.C, the agitation of the teachers, the students, the non-teaching staff and also the interference of the land owners. Not only that there has been some sort of incompetence on the part of the administration with regards to erratic marking in the marks-sheet. It is only now that the university is having some calm moments with the appointment of a new V.C.

However we must understand that appointing a new V.C does not mean that the problems ailing our university is over, as the sickness lies deep inside the heart of the university itself. It is a problem involving not only administration but also it involves politics too.

The tiny state of Nagaland has three campuses for its only University. This might be due to some unavoidable reasons but still its demerits out weigh its merits, there is very les  interaction among all the students, the fund for development has to be shared among the three campuses and we have three set of PGSU office bearers for the three campuses. So the question is “is it good? Perhaps the answer could be found in the title of an article ‘multi-campus, multi- problems,’ written long time back in the nineties.

However, despite all the problems facing the University, it has been able to provide education to the vast student community in the state. As for the students, though it has been voted that their university is not at par with others in the region, and the administration doing nothing to correct it, they can still console themselves by saying, “if you are proud of your university, the university will be proud of you.”
