‘Cry of ever individual is for paradigm shift in electioneering system’

Impur, May 11 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) organised Clean Election Movement (CEM) campaign for Arkakong and Angetyongpang constituency under Mokokchung district at Longmisa Baptist Church and Chichuyimlang Baptist Church respectivelyon May 10.

ABAM Executive Secretary, Rev Dr Mar Pongenerin the press release stated that during the movement, the much-deliberated concerns were the distribution of money, patriotism, and the open inflow of alcohol and other intoxicant substances that led the innocents captive. “…the cry of every individual was the need for a paradigm shift in the electioneering system in the forthcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly beginning with the intending candidates and the general public,” he stated. 

“ABAM is immensely pleased to see the determination of the people to obliterate such present political imbroglio by observing a fair and clean election,” he stated while adding that ABAM will continue to cover all the constituencies under Mokokchung district with the message of fair and clean election.

He also said that in such a case where everyone longs for a change in the electioneering system, the task of the church, village council, and apex bodies has become very crucial. “The inflow of intoxicants and other malpractices during the election are also some serious concerns for Nagas today during the election. Change is the need of the hour and the only way we Nagas will be liberated from all untoward eventualities being very clear, ABAM is resolute to continue with the movement,” he asserted.

The campaign was held in continuation with the CEM launched on August 27, 2021, stated a press release issued by. It was attended by 190 members from 12 churches comprised of the church leaders, the Village Council, Langpangkong Tsükong Mungdang (highest apex body of the range), and other apex bodies.

This is the third phase of the movement organized under the Mokokchung District by the ABAM Clean Election Movement. Earlier, the CEM with the apex bodies of Mokokchung Town and Impur Constituency were conducted on separate occasions.
