Abu Metha leads Indian Athletics team to World U20 Athletics Championships

Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): Abu Metha who was recently appointed as Associate Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India led the Indian Athletics team to the World U20 Athletics Championships at Nairobi in Kenya.

This is reportedly the first time that an Indian Athletics team to the World Championships is being led by a person from the North East.

Team Leader of India at the World Athletics U20 Championships, Abu Metha with Indian Team flag bearer Kunwer Ajai Singh Rana, who is competing in the Men’s Javelin at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya during the grand opening ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony was held late on August 17 at the world famous Karanani Stadium, popularly known as the Home of Heroes. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 5 persons were allowed to represent a country at the grand opening. India’s flag bearer was Kunwer Ajai Singh Rana who is competing in the Men’s Javelin. India has a 38-member team comprising of coaching staff and team officials. The ceremony was also attended by AFI President, Adille Sumariwala.
