Abu Metha holds meeting with SAI, YRS officials in Dimapur on February 19.
Dimapur, February 20 (MExN): Athletics Federation of India (AFI) Vice President and Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) Secretary General Abu Metha held a meeting with Sports Authority of India (SAI) officials to discuss strategies for strengthening sports development in Nagaland.
The meeting, held on February 19, was attended by C Dhandapani, Regional Director, SAI, and Shivam Yadav, Assistant Director (Infrastructure), SAI, along with Nagaland Youth Resources & Sports Director Kethosituo Sekhose and other officials of the Sports Department.
Discussions focused on plans and strategies for strengthening sports development and the entire sports ecosystem in the state, an official statement said.
The meeting discussed in detail the plans and strategies for strengthening sports development and the entire sports ecosystem in Nagaland.
The agendas included establishment of a national level Centre of Sports Excellence and Science in Nagaland, setting up sports academies and training Centers in different districts of Nagaland, operationalising the multi discipline sports complex in Dimapur into a center of excellence.
Metha informed that special focus will be given to Olympic and Asian games sports disciplines like athletics, football, archery and wrestling, weightlifting, adding that focus will also be given to sports disciplines “in which the state is doing well - especially in combat sports disciplines where our sportspersons do not face physical advantages like Teakwondo, boxing and Pencak Silat.”
It was also requested to develop disciplines like racket sports - badminton and table tennis - where the Mongoloid race is known to have higher abilities in hand-eye coordination.
MoU will be signed between the State Government and the Sports Authority of India soon, Metha informed.
