
Dimapur, December 3 (MExN): Stressing that sensitizing, supporting, encouraging and removing stigma with regards to persons with disability are the four main essence of commemorating World Disability Day, V. Lovitoly Sema, ADC of Niuland, exhorted the gathering comprising of persons with disability, their guardians and others at Niuland’s Adhoc Town Committee Hall today.
A press release informed that the theme of this year’s Disability Day was ‘Achieving 17 goals for the future we want.’
Terming the programme a landmark for Niuland and also a new beginning in working with the differently abled persons in Niuland, Lovitoly assured her support to the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Project for persons with disability under Niuland block undertaken by Prodigals’ Home and urged the cooperation of the concerned stakeholders to make the society more disabled friendly. She symbolically presented a blanket to a disabled child during the programme and was later presented to all disabled persons attending the programme.
The blankets were sponsored by Akum, Proprietor of CRESCENDO a music store located in Dimapur. Ashe H. Kiba, GS of Nagaland State Disability Forum in her sharing recounted the discriminations she faced in various realms of the society due to her physical disability and also shared on her determination to excel despite her disability. Maong Jamir, Assistant Director of Prodigals’ Home, in welcoming the gathering also presented on Disability situation in Nagaland and about CBR program’s concept.
Dr. Imli Ozukum (PMR), the in charge of District Rehabilitation Program presented on medical perspective of disability. He stressed on the importance of seeking and availing early intervention in the case of disability for a better chance at functional recovery. Bohoto, Vice Chairman of Niuland Adhoc Town Committee, briefly exhorted the gathering and pledged support for future programs related to persons with disability in his capacity as the Vice Chairman.
Rosy, Associate pastor Child, Sumi Baptist Church Niuland pronounced the opening prayer for the program, while scripture reading was by Vikali, song presentation by Ashika Zhimo, and closing prayer by Katia Krichena.
