Nagaland joins celebration of World Menstruation Hygiene Day 2021

Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): Menstrual hygiene for millions of women and girls has been getting worse since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and successive lockdowns in India.

Due to poverty and lack of limited resources, the poorest sections of the women and girls of the society are unable to manage their menstruation and health, which is a fundamental human right. This also increases discrimination, stigmas, and exclusions against women and girls.

To address these challenges and celebrate World Menstruation Hygiene Day 2021 with the theme ‘Action and investment in menstrual hygiene and health’, Loreni Sophia from Menstrual Health Initiative interacted virtually and through social media to raise awareness on menstrual hygiene management and health among young girls and women across Nagaland.

MIN distributed around 1280 packets of free sanitary pads to celebrate womanhood. This year MIN’s focus was to honor and salute female frontline health workers, police personals, female vegetable vendors, and others who, despite their long working hours during their periods, dedicated themselves to serve their communities and provide for their families.
