Adinno reflects on Naga ‘plebiscite’

Dimapur, May 14 (MExN): President of the Naga National Council (NNC) Adinno Phizo reflects on the “Naga plebiscite” in 1951 which she asserted “99.9%” of the Naga people voted for “single national identity and reaffirmed Nagaland independence.” The NNC president issued a press release today on the occasion of the organization’s observing 61st anniversary of “Naga voluntary plebiscite.” “I could vividly recall at first hand our leader AZ Phizo indefatigable preparation for the 1951 historic Naga plebiscite held under the aegis of NNC that overwhelmingly (99.9%) opted in favor of a single national identity and reaffirmed Nagaland independence formally declared in 1947,” Phizo stated in the press release. Against all the odds, stated, “The unprecedented zeal of our traditional village elders, women organization, the Naga youth movement and volunteers played a crucial part in the success of Naga consensus that laid the corner stone of modern Nagaland.”
