Adolescent Health Clinic inaugurated at CIHSR Dimapur

Dimapur, November 17 (MExN): Under the public-private partnership venture under NRHM, an Adolescent Health Clinic was inaugurated at CIHSR on November 17, 2011. Dr. Leishiwon during the inaugural function stated that this clinic aims to address the issues related to adolescents by providing youth friendly environment and staff.
A press note issued to the media stated that the Adolescent Health Clinic was set up in CIHSR after much research and evaluation through orientation programmes conducted in various churches and schools in Dimapur. The services provided at the clinic are not only the Curative or Preventive aspects of Adolescence Health but also Referral services and Outreach Activities. Counselling and information on Sexual Reproductive Health and advice on Nutrition are also an integral part of the services provided in this Clinic. Periodic Health Camps and health education activities involving school, teachers and education Department will also be organized.
Director, CIHSR, Dr. Abraham Joseph stated that though many parents have realized the need for sex education in school, equal number of parents is, however,  still apprehensive.  Sex Education or Reproductive Health Education aims to change the attitude of the people by providing correct information as ignorance or wrong information will lead to more serious health problems  He further hopes to start a HELPLINE where adolescents can discreetly and anonymously call-in to address  their issues.
Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur also shared that children today have access to wide source of information and thus leads to more curiosity and confusion. The Health providers must, therefore, be well informed and well prepared to tackle such situation. The note also mentioned that Adolescent Health Clinic (AHC) will be opened every Thursday between 2:00 to 4:30 pm. CIHSR also announced that this month registration will be free to those patients availing AHC services. The inaugural function was chaired by Dr. Viu Meru, Consultant CIHSR and was attended by Dr. Khelito, DTO (RNTCP), Dr. Abraham Ninan, Staff and well wishers of CIHSR.
