Kohima, December 17 (MExN): Advent is not merely a countdown to Christmas but a time for government employees to pause, look inward, and reflect on their lives and responsibilities, stated Nokchasashi, Joint Commissioner, Nagaland.

Addressing the Advent–Christmas celebration at the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland, on December 17, he recalled how children once looked forward to new clothes and sweets, adding that as adults, the season calls for reflection, disciplined living, and embracing Christian values.

Recalling the simple joys of Christmas in childhood, he said the season now calls for deeper reflection, disciplined living, and upholding Christian values.

Nokchasashi further appreciated the  employees for their dedication, including working late to complete official tasks, and remarked that serving the public is akin to serving God.

Referring to the Commissioner’s Office as the administrative head and a model for others, he urged all staff to continue striving for excellence.

Earlier, Er Sungtiba Amer, Assistant Chief Engineer, CAWD, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the Advent season as a time of waiting and preparation to welcome the birth of Jesus Christ.

He said the true meaning of Christmas lies in compassion, relationships, and unity, and called upon everyone to embody these values through their actions.

Tsutsowe Kupa, NCS, Under Secretary, Border Affairs & SEC, also addressed the gathering, noting that despite differences in faith, shared values such as morality, responsibility and purpose remain central to public service.

He encouraged staff to use the season for introspection and re-orientation and expressed hope that such fellowship would continue.

The programme featured special song by staff members from CAWD and Border Affairs, carol singing led by Commissioner’s Office staff, and concluded with a mass prayer.

Best Employee of the Year awards were also presented to two outstanding employees, reported the State DIPR.
