Dimapur, June 22 (MExN): The office of the Advocate General has said today that the Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation “published a twisted version without any locus” of the alleged confrontation that occurred on June 19 between the advocate general and some members of the committee.
A press release was issued to the Media today by the advocate general’s office, appended by additional advocate generals K Sema and LS Jamir. Giving its version of the purported incident, the press release alleged that after “the case got over,” some members of the committee “in an intimidating manner misbehaved with the Advocate General without any provocation.”
The “misconduct” was brought to the notice of C Gonsalves the counsel for the women organizations “who profusely apologized to the Advocate General for the misbehavior of his clients,” the AG’s office claimed.
The press release stated: “The Advocate General, Nagaland thereafter went inside the courtroom and brought the matter to the notice of the court and immediately Shri C. Gonsalves apologized for the misconduct of his clients and also gave an undertaking to the court assuring that his clients will not misbehave in future, none of the women members supporting the reservation were present in the courtroom when the undertaking was tendered.”
It is therefore “unfortunate,” the AG said, that “the JACWR has published a twisted version without any locus.”
