Aren’t you writing anything?
How do we write
when deprived of all emotions
when struck by barbarity
of great magnitude

Evil, they say provokes you
I, a mother,refuses to give into it
No dirge or chant
lest curses may run from thy lips

My silence is all I give
that I may harness my anger
to speak healing to our land
Urauvie! Urauvie!

Yes,victory to our land
Even if they try to wipe our lives and memory
May the world know
that the Naga sheld their dignity

That all may live!

Why are you silent this time?
14 more I have claimed,
from the land you so fiercely protect
with your history and writings

1958 onwards….
Oh you have lost count
But I grow more sophisticated
with weapons and strategies

The doors you knock on
the courts and the judges
the committees and the melee
have all upheld me

Tell me
What have you got?

We have nothing!
Just our resistance
We offer you consolation and condolences
even in our utter desolation

We have our history
that we will retell time and again
of the times we were battered
when our chords were broken too

Yet, our note of Halleluiahs
over our land and homes grew louder-
overwhelming the hills and the terror
“Gloria in Excelsis Deo”

AFSPA: A Closure

Ningreichon

The mighty warriors of the past
hunted heads, yet, knew the sacredness
of law and life
fairness in a fight too!

In times of war and famine,
put love first, our ancestors taught
protect the weak, feed, even the enemies
Oh their love is still living in our land

Love is strange
the lament and grief of our elders
are prayers for the perpetrators too
of justice that does not seek vengeance

Oh this tormenting quest to understand
calmness in calamity
the courage to cry
strength to pray for those who caused grief

Just like the song
‘And man will live for evermore,
because of Christmas Day’
it is hard to understand why our elders chant
Mercy and Healing over memorial and damp tombs

Then, they say
we are freed because of what happened on Christmas
that we may know freedom
that liberates the soul too

Listen, the chorus in the Naga Hills
‘For unto us a child is born’
This child we offer to you
For all the lives you took

Our only closure!
