Kohima, October 25 (MExN): The aggrieved landowners affected by the Kohima-Jessami two-lane construction project have expressed frustration over the alleged negligence by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and have issued an ultimatum demanding compensation. The landowners, whose properties fall within packages II, III, IV, and V of the project, in a press release, cited prolonged delays and lack of clarity from NHIDCL as forcing them into severe hardship, including damaged homes and compromised living conditions.
Since late 2021, the landowners have been engaged in ongoing appeals to NHIDCL for a resolution, seeking compensation for damages and losses caused by construction activities. Despite efforts from local authorities, district administration, ministers, and the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO), the group reported that their concerns have remained unaddressed.
The landowners served an ultimatum to the Executive Director of NHIDCL, calling for compensation to be released within seven days from the date of this announcement. Failure to comply will result in the indefinite closure of NHIDCL's Project Office in Kohima.
