Aggrieved NH-29 landowners prepare for legal action

Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): Aggrieved landowners affected by the already constructed NH-29 expansion project along the Purana Bazar–Chümoukedima stretch have initiated preparations to pursue legal action seeking re-survey and fair compensation.

In a press release issued on May 14, the Aggrieved Landowners Committee informed that a meeting was held with concerned authorities on May 5 regarding compensation issues involving landowners under the “rejected list (tallied & excess).”

According to the release, while 136 “less” landowners were approved for compensation, all 144 landowners under the rejected category, along with any approved landowners who still feel aggrieved, were invited to join the common cause.

The committee stated that during the meeting, aggrieved landowners were advised to seek legal remedy through a civil suit. It added that the Advisor to the Aggrieved Landowners Committee had also expressed support for pursuing the matter through appropriate legal proceedings.

Accordingly, preparations are being initiated to collectively file the case on behalf of the affected landowners, the release stated.
The committee has requested all concerned landowners to urgently submit two photocopies each of their land patta documents for the legal proceedings. It further noted that many landowners have not yet submitted the required documents and appealed for cooperation from all concerned.
