Agitating employees of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal have deferred their plan to tender mass resignation from their jobs following a talk with the government on Wednesday. The employees of the only state run medical college in the state are on strike demanding implementation of the 7th Revision of Pay.
Earlier on Tuesday, the employees under the banner of Teachers Association, the Association for All Non-Teaching Staffs and the Trained Nurses Association of JNIMS on Tuesday had announced its decision to submit mass resignation April 7, on grounds that the state government had failed to implement the pay revision. However, the striking employees’ body postponed their planned mass resignation following an assurance from Chief Minister N Biren Singh who is also the chairperson of the JNIMS Society under which the institute runs.
The Chief Minister reportedly gave the assurance to the leaders of the striking employees’ association during a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
From the government side, the marathon meeting was attended by Agriculture minister, O Lukhoi, Education minister, S Rajen and MLA, S Ranjan (advisor (health) to CM) apart from the chief secretary and officials concerned of the state government.
According to sources, during the meeting, the Chief Minister convinced the leaders of the striking association that the government has the desire to address the demands of the employees, while citing unhealthy financial position of the state as the main factor for government’s delay in the implementation of the 7th ROP.
The Chief Minister later reportedly asked his advisor (Health), Dr S Ranjan and the chief secretary to look into the feasibility.
Earlier, the Chief Minister skipped the state level World Health Day celebration at JNIMS auditorium where he was the chief guest. Later in another function held at Kangla fort, he admitted that he had to skip the function as he had to consult and find ways and means for fulfilling the demands of the employees.
