Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA) SBI Foundation-Gram Seva organized awareness programme on organic farming with practical demonstration (Application of Trichoderma, Foliar, Acid treatments, seedling and cutting treatments) at Bade village on August 26.

The objective of the training was to promote sustainable agricultural practices and increase farmers’ income, a press release stated here. 

Resource person, E Lireni Kikon, Assistant Chief Technical Officer specialized in Plant Protection, KVK, Dimapur, ICAR Nagaland centre said that organic farming is a system of management and agricultural production that combines a high level of biodiversity with environmental practices that preserve natural resources. She highlighted key features of organic farming such as protecting the soil quality, nitrogen fixation in soil, weed and pest control, rearing of livestock, conservation of natural habitats and key feature of organic farming. She also stressed on the scope of organic farming in India in special reference to NE states. 

She elaborated on the four principles of organic farming: Principle of health; Principle of fairness (Environmental friendly); Principle of ecological balance; and Principle of care. She highlighted the differences between the organic farming and conventional type of farming which is practiced in one’s daily life. There was practical demonstration of making homemade pesticides. Seed banks of maize, turmeric, ginger and paddy care important and was shown how it could be fostered and preserved in each of the houses. 

Imnayangla Jamir, convergence officer SBI proposed the words of welcome and Kt Khino Anal, Livelihood Officer, SBI, Gram Seva, anchored the meeting. It concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Khosato, President GSC, Bade village proposed vote of thanks.
