DIMAPUR, AUGUST 26 (MExN): A recently completed rental apartment complex was inaugurated at PWD Housing Campus, Dimapur on Thursday, August 26. The building (Rental Housing Phase II) to be rented out was constructed by the Public Works Department (Housing) at a total cost of Rs. 2.23 crore.
Parliamentary Secretary, PWD (Housing), Labour & Employment, Er T. Saku Aier attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest. Congratulating the PWD, Aier in his address said that it would be a land mark in the history of the department. He expressed regret that the department could not inaugurate other housing projects taken up and completed by the department; nevertheless the completed projects are bringing in revenue to the government. Terming the housing project of the department as unique, he added that it would enhance the state revenue and asserted that the department would continue with such revenue generating projects. The importance of the PWD is undiminished, he said, which not only connects people but also meets the requirement of housing for the people.
Additional Chief Engineer (Housing), Chanbemo Lotha, said that the housing wing of the department is currently in the midst of many such ongoing projects. However, a financial constraint is preventing the completion of the projects on time.
The completed building when rented out is projected to bring in monthly revenue of Rs. 25, 292 approximately. It will be rented out to Nagaland University’s School of Engineering, Technology and Management. Started construction in the year 2009, the original cost estimate was Rs. 1.5 crore. Inflation of market price of the construction materials prompted the department to revise the original estimate according to the new schedule rate of 2010 prepared by the NPWD. An additional amount of Rs. 73 lakh was sanctioned which is yet to be released, department officials said. It took two years to complete.
