KOHIMA, DECEMBER 30 (MExN): The Akami Clan held its second General Meeting on December 29 at Khumboda (Edau Valley), Losami village, under Phek district.

A total of 361 members of the Akami Clan from six villages—Krowemi, Chizami, Chutsami (Kharasom), Losami, Losatephe and Pholami—were registered at the meeting.

The general meeting was hosted by Kiezo Akami, Deputy Secretary and Transport Officer, Kohima, and Neiko Akami, Member Secretary, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority.

Addressing the gathering, Kiezo Akami advised clan members not to misbehave or indulge in illegal activities that could bring shame to the clan. Instead, he encouraged them to engage in positive actions and bring laurels to the community. While motivating aspirants to work hard, he noted that 34 years have passed since the first general meeting and said it would be unfortunate if the clan fails to produce an IAS or other prestigious officers by its 50th anniversary.

Neiko Akami advised leaders in all fields—whether pastors, deacons, community leaders or government servants—to discharge their responsibilities with utmost honesty and sincerity, stating that such conduct would benefit generations to come. Encouraging aspirants preparing for competitive examinations, he said competition was intense and that no backdoor appointments were possible. He also stressed the importance of technical subjects, stating that they offer significant career advantages.

He further advised parents to refrain from bad habits that render them incapable of guiding their children, remarking that “one cannot expect a good generation without setting a good example.”

Rev Dr Kowepe Akami, Mission Director, Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC), called upon members to respect their grandparents and urged the clan not to quarrel over collective ownership of land and resources. He also encouraged families to remain God-centred and upright.

Wekhahi Akami, Chairman of the Losami Akami Clan, praised God for the growth and blessings bestowed upon the clan. He recalled the first General Meeting held 34 years ago and explained that members from different villages were earlier known by names such as Teno and Kanuo before “Akami” was officially adopted following the 1991 meeting.

He narrated the historical links of the Akami Clan with villages including Chutsami (Kharasom), Pholami, Krowemi, Chizami and Losami, and also mentioned its historical connection with Middle Khomi Village. Blessing the clan, he urged members to remain united, maintain peace, put God first and refrain from taking bribes in any form.

The programme was chaired by Kedukhahi Akami, while Wewutso Akami invoked God’s blessings. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mesete Akami.
