Cautions against out-of-court settlement
Mokokchung, February 19 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor in Mokokchung district on February 16, in which the accused is reportedly the victim's father.
In a statement issued here, the students’ body termed the act as “heinous and inhuman,” expressing outrage that the alleged perpetrator was someone “meant to be her protector, comforter, and guardian.” The AKM said such crimes strike at the very foundation of family, society and humanity, and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
“Such an act is not only shameful and morally reprehensible but also leaves deep psychological and emotional trauma on the child, the scars of which may last a lifetime,” AKM condemned.
The conference has urged the police administration and concerned authorities to deal with the case with utmost seriousness and ensure that the accused is charged under the strictest provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. It demanded that justice be delivered swiftly and without compromise.
Appealing to family members, village authorities and the community at large, the AKM cautioned against any attempt to settle the matter outside the court of law. “Any form of compromise or pressure undermines justice and further victimizes the child,” it stated.
AKM also announced that it would closely monitor the progress of the case to ensure the culprit is punished in accordance with the law.
It called upon society to stand with compassion, responsibility and courage to protect her dignity and ensure a safer future for every child.
