AKM opposes transfer of TB Hospital doctor

MOKOKCHUNG, AUGUST 9 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed concern over the transfer order issued by the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare on August 1 affecting Dr Rongsenneken, Junior Specialist (General Surgery), who has been overseeing the Chest Disease & TB Hospital in Mokokchung in the absence of a dedicated Medical Officer.

The 50-bedded TB Hospital is one of the district’s key institutions in the fight against tuberculosis, catering to Mokokchung and neighbouring districts. While the AKM said it respects administrative procedures, it maintained that enforcing the transfer without first appointing a suitable replacement would disrupt essential healthcare services and jeopardise the continuity of patient treatment.
Reiterating its stand, the AKM said it would not allow the transfer of Dr Rongsenneken without a replacement, preferably a Medical Officer, being appointed and assuming duty before the transfer is effected. The organisation urged the Health & Family Welfare Department to ensure uninterrupted treatment and care for TB patients by retaining the current doctor until a successor is in place.
