Akuk village served ‘pre-emptive notice’ over land dispute

Dimapur, April 3 (MExN): Akuk (Old) village is served a “pre-emptive notice” by the Wozhu Old Village Council, Wokha regarding a boundary dispute at Cherang valley. 

The notice issued by the Wozhu village council stated that its best efforts at arriving at an amicable solution on the boundary dispute at Cherang valley had been totally frustrated by the non-attendance to the summons issued. The summons was issued by the village authority in written dated May 1, 2006 and November 24, 2006 for negotiations. 

The notice, addressed to the chairman of Akuk (Old) Village Council, observed with grave displeasure the action of Akuk where it was stated that half-dried recently cut area for jhumming were set ablaze with the intent and motive to complicate he stage of clearing before sowing. 

“This kind of attitude and action is regrettable and incongruous and out of keeping with the need for negotiation of the settlement of the dispute and account it as a substitution for compensating the deficiency in the claim on the land” the notice stated. “Resorting to physical threat of this kind is not the nest solution for nay crises be it in wild or vice versa” it added. Owning to these developments, the council stated that it has been forced to serve the “pre-emptive notice” pertaining to the demarcation of the boundary in and around Cherang valley of Wozhu (Old) village. The demarcation was given in the notice as: Pukichita stream (Aghuthu Ghoki)-Minkilung (Atughoki)-Lotio-Punhebo Kita-Haichi Punhebola-Chirang River. This boundary originally stands between Wozhu and Chengpang, the notice stated. 

“For any event of displeasure, you are at liberty to sue the matter in the court of law for claim/counter-claim over the said land” the Wozhu council informed Akuk (Old) Village Council.
