DH&FW appoints 27 new doctors

Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu today said that all 49 COVID-19 positive persons in Nagaland are receiving medical care at the designated COVID-19 Hospitals.


Out 49 positive cases, 33 are asymptomatic and 16 are mild cases, the Minister said adding that “we do not have even moderate cases also.”


Addressing a press conference here this evening, the Minister said that active surveillance is going on to prevent further spreading of the infection.


Till date, a total of 3157 samples have been tested. Results of 1789 samples have been received out of which 49 are positive. Results for 1368 samples are awaited, the Minister said.


To combat the COVID-19 pandemic, he said government has restructured the system to bring about better communication and to address the loopholes.


Kronu said that the government has brought out new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for returnees to Nagaland to strengthen and to make the system better.


The provisions of the revised SOP will be applicable to returnees already in Quarantine Centres of Dimapur, Kohima and other districts with immediate effect, and for new returnees entering the state it will be applicable from June 4.


He informed that Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who is the chairman of the High Powered Committee held a meeting today with all the Deputy Commissioners, SPs and CMOs through video conferencing.


He said the Chief Minister was briefed by all the Deputy Commissioners and other officers of the District Task Force on the various issues being faced by the district with regard to the preparedness for combating COVID-19 and also about the quarantine facilities.


Rio is said to have appreciated the efforts of the District Task Forces and requested them to continue efforts to improve the preparedness and ramp up the quarantine facilities in all the districts.


Another newly inducted state COVID-19 spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon, Advisor for Information Technology, Science & Technology and New & Renewable Energy, said that during video conferencing, Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner informed about the installation of CCTV in the quarantine centres and termed it as a good development.


Principal Director for Health & Family Welfare Dr Vizolie Z Suokhrie said that the Chedema COVID-19 Hospital has almost filled up, for which it has activated NHAK COVID-19 Hospital.  Presently, Kohima has 13 active cases which are all said to be asymptomatic.


On the health of the COVID-19 positive patients, he said that most of the patients are in 20-30 age groups without other disease conditions.


Stating that vitamins are being given to them to boost their immunity, he said “Apart from it, there is no specific treatment.”


On workforce, Dr Suokhrie expressed happiness that the department has already appointed 27 doctors and they will be sent to the needy areas soon.
