AMEU Wokha begins phase 3 agitation

WOKHA, MAY 16 (MExN): The Aggrieved Medical Employees Unions, Wokha began its third phase of agitation on Friday, by holding an indefinite strike at the Chief Medical Officer’s Office in Wokha. Sixty three aggrieved medical employees gathered outside the CMO office, Wokha and locked the office demanding release of their salaries, which have been pending since 2012. Members of the AMEU locked the CMO, Wokha office and pelted stones, which broke the window panes. Some of the office rooms were also damaged.

“After giving us the appointment order and making us open service books and GPF accounts which has been deducting from our salaries for the last ten years, why is the Government doing injustice to us”, posed AMEU President, Thungchanbeni.  AMEU General Secretary, Lichanbemo further questioned why out of the 63 listed aggrieved employees, “15 are still enjoying the 6th ROP salary.” “Even after so many years of this issue why officials from the Directorate has not turned up for investigation/Enquiry?” he questioned.

Another aggrieved employee questioned, “when the nature of appointment during 2007-2009 are same with the other employees who are still regular, why our appointments were levelled as without sanctioned post? Why were we asked to continue our work even after our salaries were held up since May 2012 by the then CMO Wokha and now we are made to suffer?”

CMO Wokha, Dr. Enrithung, who joined office on March last, informed that decision on the matter is still awaited since the Commissioner Secretary (CS) is on leave. The AMEU has asserted that the indefinite strike will continue until the government and the directorate take positive decisions.
