An open letter to the Chief Minister of Nagaland

To,
Shri. Neiphiu Rio
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland

Hon’ble sir,
I beg to draw your kind attention on the matter pertaining to issuing of permit/card by certain NGOs in Dimapur with the payment of Rs. 200/-in the name of checking Muslim illegal immigrants. As an elderly Naga citizen, please allow me to express the following concerns:

1. I for one, I am certainly in support of checking illegal immigrant for the safety and security of our children, to preserve our rich cultural and traditional values and to protest our land and space. However, the big question is whose job is it anyway? Does the NGOs or mass-based organization have the legal authorities to issue permit/card and collect money?

2. The state government is equipped with all legal sanction to effectively take stringent measures while the NGOs, mass-based organization and the churches can surely play the role of pressure groups and support the government’s initiatives. If otherwise, then monetary interest may not be totally ruled out.

3. The oft quoted maxim, “to many cooks spoil the brood”, is in fact a glaring example of our Naga society today in every field. If every Tom, Dick and harry is at liberty to take part in the cooking, considering as done even with the best of intentions, the fact is, each of them is still undeniably a contributing factor in spoiling the brood.

4. with due respect to the Naga Council, Dimapur and other subordinate organization that has been extending yeoman’s service to the society in many areas, it will be in appropriate for them to overtake the state government.

Therefore, hon’ble sir, in the light of the above concern expressed, I strong appeal to your good office to leave no stone unturned in checking illegal immigrant before we the Nagas become minority in our own God-given motherland. At the same time, for once, kindly put a stop to illegal issuing of permit/card for payment by NGOs.

Yours truly
Yanger Aier
