Mon District Administration appeals to take care of pets
Mon, June 3 (MExN): Reiterating the World Health Organization report that “animals cannot transmit COVID-19”, the Mon District Administration said that “the shoot-at-sight order issued by ward or village authorities, individuals or groups is a criminal offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.”
“If anyone harms or threatens your pet, you have every right to file a First Information Report,” it stated while adding that committing mischief by harming or killing animals can lead to imprisonment for 2 years or more (Section 428/429 of Indian Penal Code).
“Thousands of people feed street animals in the cities. It is a kind gesture that you can do too. We are a civilised Christian society and should never promote a culture where people are free to shoot, destroy or steal any property (living and non-living) at all costs. Let us set an example of kindness and safety for the younger generations,” the Mon administration appealed.
It also encouraged all to take care of pets, walk them on a leash and keep them clean and hygienic at all times. “Pet owners are requested to vaccinate your pets and feed them on time. Please make time to walk your dog for about 30 minutes at the least,” it stated.
“We request you all to practice kindness and adopt a humane approach especially at this time when the world is suffering. COVID-19 has already taken away so much from us. Spread kindness and love towards all living beings,” Mon District Administration added.
