Dimapur, December 17 (MExN): The All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) condemns the “high-handedness” and “irrationality” of Manipur Police officer SDPO Wungpam Kasar for firing at and physically assaulting before detaining the ANSAM General Secretary, Seth Shatsang in the presence of other student leaders at TKS office today. A statement issued by ANSAM has demanded immediate termination of the said officer within two days time, failing which the ANSAM will resort to democratic agitation against the concerned authority and State Government. ANSAM accused the Manipur police of attempting to crush and repress the one hour public curfew in all Naga Hill Districts of Manipur for rightful demand of “alternative Arrangement.” The association alleged that the Manipur police led by SDPO Kasar barged into the office of the TKS Presidential room and fired at ANSAM General Secretary before physically assaulting him and other TKS and ANSAM leaders. Deeply resenting the incident, the ANSAM volunteers in all Naga Hill Districts imposed a “lightning public curfew” this afternoon. ANSAM stated that it will be undeterred by such communal incident instigated by the Manipur government and will continue to carry on the “Alternative Arrangement” movement as endorsed and assigned by the UNC Tribe Hohos.
