Imphal, June 4 (NNN): The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has resolved to intensify its agitation over the continued absence of information on the six Naga hostages allegedly abducted on May 13, following the expiry of its ultimatum to the Manipur government and concerned authorities.
The decision was taken during an emergency assembly convened on June 3 at Ukhrul district headquarters and hosted by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) to deliberate on the prevailing situation.
According to ANSAM, the assembly noted with "profound disappointment" that despite the lapse of the deadline set for the authorities, no concrete information regarding the safety, whereabouts or status of the six hostages has been made available to their families or the Naga people.
"The prolonged silence and lack of visible progress have further intensified the anxiety and suffering of the victims' families and the Naga people at large," the student body stated.
The assembly reaffirmed an earlier demand made by the ANSAM Presidential Council, urging the state government to establish the condition and whereabouts of the "six Naga hostages abducted on May 13, 2026, at Leilon Vaiphei in broad daylight by KNF(P) along with the Leilon Vaiphei villagers" and ensure their safe return to their families and the Naga people.
As part of its agitation programme, ANSAM resolved to launch a march towards Imphal on June 4 via National Highway-202 from Ukhrul. The march, involving all ANSAM units, will proceed to Makhan village to meet the families of the six hostages and other concerned parties.
The assembly also stressed the need for broader consultation within the Naga community before implementing the Presidential Council's decision to boycott the state government. It noted that the prevailing situation requires greater inclusiveness and resolved to authorise the ANSAM Executive Council and its units to conduct intensive consultations with all stakeholders.
In addition, the meeting resolved to constitute an action committee to address the prevailing situation in the Naga homeland. The committee will be formed by the Executive Council and will include former ANSAM leaders as members.
ANSAM stated that it remains committed to pursuing all democratic and peaceful means available until justice is delivered and the six hostages are reunited with their families.
"The suffering endured by the families of the hostages cannot be ignored, and every possible effort must be made to bring them home safely," it added.
