Anti-Leprosy day observed in Peren

Officials along with the participants during the National Anti-Leprosy Day 2026 programme at Old Jalukie, Peren on January 30.

Peren, January 31 (MExN): The National Anti-Leprosy Day 2026 and the SPARSH Leprosy Awareness Campaign were observed at Old Jalukie, Peren, on January 30 under the theme “Ending Discrimination, Ensuring Dignity.”

Pehiareudi Zeliang, PMW, in his welcome address stated that leprosy is one of the oldest diseases known to mankind. He explained the different types of leprosy, its early signs and symptoms, and emphasized the importance of timely detection and treatment.

Somaya Shimrah, PMW, informed the gathering that leprosy is completely curable and that early treatment can prevent disabilities. He further highlighted that free treatment for leprosy is available at all government health centres.

During the programme, the Anti-Leprosy Pledge was administered to the participants, and IEC (Information, Education and Communication) materials were distributed to raise awareness.
Free OTC medicines were also distributed to 63 beneficiaries during the event.

The programme concluded with an invocation by Kedunol Valeo, Senior Health Educator, and a vote of thanks delivered by Joseph Kamei, Urban Health Worker.
