I did not find the recent resolution passed in The State Assembly, requesting the Indian Authorities to suspend Polls until a solution to the Naga Mess can be found, worthy of comment; for when you attend a circus to watch Clowns performing, you do not comment on each and every slapstick antic of theirs.
So, I passed this Resolution off as just another antic of our Resident Clowns. But now that this resolution has been, in quick succession, quoted by Mr. K. K. Sema, in his article, “Solution before Elections”, and brought up by Mr. Imkong L. Imchen in an interaction with the Press, I feel I should share my views on it before people start taking it seriously.
I cannot say whether Mr. Imchen expressed his personal views or was selected by his fellow Legislators to state that, “It (elections) is not a big deal for us comparing (sic) to the Naga political issue.” but if he was selected to do so, it reflects the intellectual poverty and lack of honesty of our present Legislators. For he is infamous for, among other infamous things, the outright lie that they (meaning he and his fellow Ministers) are not “Chors”!!!!! A bigger lie than which I have never come across in the 50 odd years I’ve been on this planet.
Firstly, in any Democracy, Elections are “The ONLY Deal”; it is the Foundation of Democracy, without elections, a democracy ceases to exist. How did Mr. Imchen reach the position whereby every stupid utterance of his is quoted in the Press, if not through the process of elections? Having attained office through the very process of elections, our Legislators cannot pass resolutions asking the process whereby they came to power, be suspended. Mr. Imchen, or anyone one else, for the matter, must show us the “Solution” before asking for Elections to be delayed for its sake. Secondly, the Naga Political Issue is the biggest Issue before the People of Nagaland, but it is still a long way to being solved in any acceptable manner, so it cannot be raked up by every Tom, Dick and Harry to shore up false statements and push selfish agendas.
Thirdly, what our legislators have done in passing the Resolution, resolving to request that Elections be postponed till a Solution to the Naga Issue is found, is beyond their power to do so. They have been elected to the Assembly to function within the Limits of The Constitution of India, not to pass resolutions asking for due processes of the functioning of Democracy to be delayed or deferred.
The fact that the Nagaland State Assembly passed a resolution asking that Constitutional Process of Elections be deferred/suspended, sine die, is a Felonious act, at best, and amounts to Treason, at worst. For it is Treason when you seek to undermine the very basis on which the Nation of India and its Constitution stands upon, without a very valid reason; the word, “Solution” is not a valid reason to suspend the Democratic Process of Elections.
We are up in arms over minor misdeeds which affect individuals, while we silently accept and swallow whole, a Felonious and Illegal Resolution passed by our State Legislators; which seeks to deprive each and every person of Nagaland of his/her Democratic Right to elect representatives, guaranteed by The Constitution of India? Our selective perceptions of the Evils that surround us never ceases to amaze, outrage and sadden me. Are we such an ignorant people that we fail to recognise the real dangers that surround us? Every people have leaders who seek to protect and lead them to freedom; only in Nagaland do we have half-baked leaders and pseudo intellectuals who seek to enslave and devour us.
