Ao Senden condemns threat against NMA advisor, vows customary punishment

Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): The Ao Senden has strongly condemned an alleged post by an individual in the private Facebook group “Unified Naga Land for Christ,” which contained a death threat against Prof Rosemary Dzüvichü, Adviser to the Naga Mothers’ Association.

The Nagaland Police have arrested the individual, identified as Walonir Longkumer (WJ Longkumer), following a written complaint received on September 24 from the Advisor.

The Senden described the post as “lunatically motivated” and said such behaviour brings infamy to the Ao Naga community while hurting the sentiments of citizens across Nagaland.

In its statement, it emphasised that women in Ao society, and Naga society at large, have always been accorded dignity and respect, regardless of social or professional status. Threats and derogatory language, it said, have no place in a civilised and democratic society and will not deter women from exercising their rights, vocations, or professional responsibilities.

The apex Ao tribe body specifically stated that the accused would face befitting punishment under Ao customary laws for bringing disrepute to the community and harming public sentiment.

In addition, it urged law enforcement authorities to promptly arrest, prosecute, and ensure strict legal action against the perpetrator to uphold justice and prevent further intimidation of women leaders.

The Ao Senden reiterated its commitment to defending the dignity and safety of women in the community and called upon all citizens to stand united against acts of hatred, intimidation, and violence.
