The Aoli Longchar Mungdang (ALM) inaugurated its Platinum Jubilee celebrations on November 7, at Khensa village in Mokokchung district. This milestone event, held under the theme ‘Longchar Ayak Asüngsashi’ (Reinvigorating Longchar Identity), will continue until November 8 and aims to honor the heritage and unity of the Longchar clan.

The event opened with a series of speeches and performances that reflected on the clan’s journey and the importance of cultural preservation. Dr. Imkongwapang Longchar, President of the ALM, delivered a presidential address highlighting the ALM’s establishment in 1949 in Chungtia Village, which was initially aimed at uniting the Longchar clan and serving as a pillar for their identity. He emphasized the distinction between objective and subjective truths, urging the community to introspect with integrity and uphold strong moral values.

Imtitoshi, representing the Khensa Village Council, expressed pride in hosting the Jubilee and commended the Longchar clan for its contributions to the Ao community over the past 75 years. Aowati, Vice President of Ao Senden, encouraged the clan to avoid selfishness and consider the broader community’s welfare while reflecting on the clan’s achievements and future aspirations.

In his exhortation, Limanungsang Kichu, President of the Mongsen Mungdang, stressed the importance of unity, compassion, and traditional values within the community, particularly the role of cultural identity passed down through families. He called for a revival of cultural practices with the same vigor as religious revivals.

Speaking on behalf of the in-laws, Er. Chubatoshi, Executive Engineer of PWD (R&B) Mangkolemba Division, expressed admiration for the clan’s traditions. He emphasized the importance of carefully adapting to evolving cultures while preserving the sanctity of traditional customs, such as the unique meanings behind Ao names given to children. He encouraged the Longchar clan to lead efforts in preserving Ao culture and traditions.

The celebration also featured traditional folk songs by Aoli Longchar units and a screening of a “Longchar Documentary” that explored the clan’s origins. The Platinum Jubilee, marking the 11th ALM conference, has brought together around 500 delegates from over 25 villages and units. The event will conclude on November 8 with two additional sessions, celebrating 75 years of heritage and resilience.
