Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): The Angami Public Organisation (APO) has expressed anguish over the situation and plight of the Rengma Nagas in Assam state in the light of intimidation and threat by the Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT), which had led to the Rengma villagers fleeing their homes to take refuge in other area.
“The unwarranted provocation came when it is the season for the villages to cultivate food stuff for yearly sustenance which is crucial for the tribal people like us and those who live by our God given ancestral lands to survive,” APO President, Neingunyü Sekhose stated in a press release.
The APO appealed to the KPLT to be more reasonable and exhibit maturity for the interests of peaceful co-existence of various ethnic people of the region. “Since time immemorial Karbi and Naga people have been leaving together and shall continue to do so,” APO said. “Thus, as struggling people to attain our respective goals we should help and assist each other whereby continue to live as good neighbours.”
Meanwhile, the Angamis expressed solidarity to the pain and suffering of Rengmas in Assam while appealing to all sections of people and the Government to come together to amicably resolve the problems to restore normalcy and harmony in the region.
