DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Baudi (HOHO) has in a letter written to Union Railway Minister appealed for diversion of Jiribam-Tupul rail head to the earlier proposal i.e. Diphu-Karong via Jalukie. In the letter dated May 19, the Baudi stated that such a move would be beneficial both for the Centre as well as for the people of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.
It was also mentioned that the railhead from Diphu to Karong via Jalukie was inaugurated on November 7, 1998, during the time of Nitish Kumar, the then Union Railway Minister but had been ‘unfortunately’ diverted to Jiribam and Tupul. The Baudi also reminded the Minister that the railhead in question happened to be the shortest route to Manipur via Assam and Nagaland and therefore would save the local economy and enhance it at the same time.
