•-Through this column, I as a concerned citizen would like to draw the attention of the concerned authority in regard to appointment of LDA-CUM-Computer.
With the expiry of last date of acceptance of letter, most of the departments have started issuing appointment order and the selected candidates are joining in various allotted departments. However it is learned that in a few department like social welfare, the appointment order are yet to be issued on the following reasons.
1. There is no vacancy at present in the department since all the requisition vacancies were filled up on contract basic, so the department is saying that appointment cannot be made till the services of all those contract employees are terminated.
2. Promotion against the retired vacancies arising out of retirement Act 2009 has not yet been finalized.
If such is the cases, how long the selected candidates in a particular department have to wait for their termination and finalization of their promotion? Whereas candidates selected in a same combined exam are getting appointment order. We feel that P& AR department being a recruiting agency should not give up the recruitment process in a half way leaving the selected candidates running from pillar to post to get their appointment order. In the light of the above reasons, I would like to put forward some suggestions to P & AR department for early solution.
1. To issue further directive to all defaulting department for completion of the recruitment process at the stipulated date so as to maintain uniformity since the interview was conducted in a combined manner.
2. Seniority of the selected candidates should be maintained/ prepared purely on merit basis by disclosing/dispatching the marks secures by candidate in various departments in order to maintain merit cum-seniority.
The successful conduct of mass recruitment was landmark achievement and first of its kind in our state.
Kudos to chief secretary, Nagaland, the man of principal and action who is also the man behind the successful conduct of exam, it really deserved appreciation by one and all. The tireless effort of P & AR department and NSF should also be acknowledged.
Last but not the least; I humbly appeal the concern authority to expedite the case urgently.

Cricket Madness
•-While the country should be proud about the world cup victory, the nationwide euphoria to frenzy level is unwarranted and it may be an indication that we are unable to view things in a proportionate manner with level of maturity. Cricket and for that matter any sport cannot be a be all and end all of any society and it has to be given its due place only. If one were to feel so proud about India winning the world cup, what about the extremely poor performance when Indian sportsmen have been showing in the Olympic games for the last so many decades and Olympics the far more representative world event than cricket. What about India using pride of place amongst the world hockey playing countries and India not even find a mention in the world football scenario ?
While we seem to be celebrating cricket victory as if we have conquered the world, the number of countries playing cricket in a very active manner is only a handful. Obviously, countries like Netherlands, Canada, Ireland, Kenya have all been included in the world cup cricket tournament only to add number and give a semblance of global character for this tournament which really does not exist.
What really causes concern about this Indian frenzy about the world cup victory is that we do not seem to have anything better to celebrate, which would be recognized all over the world.
The business centric media has played a significant role in creating a public craze about cricket and in the process, the media has been portraying as if hearts of 1.21 billion Indians are excited about this victory. The truth that perhaps, half the population of this country (may be around 0.6 billion people) living in rural areas and small towns may not be even aware about cricket at all or this event taking place in India. Obviously, cricket is a craze of the urban class of the society just as the fact that chess is a game that would be of interest only to intellectuals. Performance of the Indian chess champions in the world arena is far more praiseworthy than our achievements in cricket. The victory in world cup cricket and the blanket of glory that media is creating , perhaps with commercial objectives cannot and will not conceal the extremely serious problems of widespread poverty and corruption in India and the insecurity conditions that several women face due to lack of law and order scenario. World cup victory has not taken India to the top of the world, as projected by the media.
It is high time that cricket madness would calm down and the country goes back to work and find ways to solve its many issues , some of which like the widespread corruption in all walks of life have made India a laughing stock in the world.

Water Water Everywhere
•-The season of rains is about to begin. Excess of water is set to replace our dry spell of water starved situation. Considering the point of water excess and water paucity in the very same place at different points of time, water harvesting would prove to be a viable option, more as a necessity than an option perhaps, especially in the Nagaland capital.
The increasing dearness of water each passing year, during the winters, is a distressing trend. Management of the excessive water during summers, though not a very easy prospect, would prove to be pivotal. The most amiable approach I can think of, though not with its idiosyncratic flaws, is of community-based water harvesting: where the excessive water is harvested with the whole participation of the community, for instance, sector-wise. There are various models of water harvesting, some states in India have adopted water harvesting, from where we could adopt and apply techniques from.
